Kaduna village experienced series of tremors
The Nigerian government has said that the country can generate $400 billion from the exploration of the newly found mineral resource, Nickel in Kaduna state.
In an interview with the leadership newspaper, the minister of state for mines and steel development Abubakar Bwari said nickel deposits found in Kaduna state runs into a million tonnes.
Bwari said the discovery was made following a surface exploration while explaining that a full exploration could lead to more discoveries.
Also placing the value of nickel at $10,000 per tonne in the world market, Bwari said benefits of the discovery recently made in Kaduna state is huge for Nigeria.

Highlighting the benefits, the minister said communities in the area would enjoy infrastructural development, including job opportunities for geologists and engineers.
He also said, the exploration will justify Nigeria’s position as a rich mineral producing country.
However, speaking on possible effects of exploration of nickel in Kaduna state, a geologist Samuel Arabi said the 2.6 tremor experienced in Kwoi in Kaduna state recently is minor.
Arabi said because the location is not an earthquake prone area and that Nigerians need not worry.
He also recalled that similar tremors have been experienced in same location and other areas in 1993.
“Proper monitoring could mitigate future occurrence,” Arabi said, explaining that the tremor could have been caused by cracks and crevices due to rainfall in the area.

It will be recalled that Nigerian through the aid of an Australian miner Hugh Morgan and his team discovered deposits of Nickel in Kaduna state.
The discovery the team said was unusual as Nickel deposits are always found in ball of 3mm diameter of high purity in shallow soil.
Bwari had earlier said: “The discovery of this particular nickel is unique, in the sense that while most nickel discoveries have 53-58% purity, the one discovered around Kafanchan in Kaduna state has 98% purity, it is world class and has high commercial value.”
